About Hijri
Salam & Welcome!
A Monthly Periodical to Recentre You Through Your Lunar Year
Hijri was born from a longing to reconnect with time in a way that felt meaningful, rooted, and spiritually alive - and, for the most part, asked nothing of your phone.
Meet the Founder
My name is Masuma Abdul-Muhit. I spent over six years studying the traditional Alimiyyah course, immersed in the classical Islamic sciences, and today I work as a life coach specialising in women's wellbeing, success, and family life. My work is helping women build lives they are proud of - flourishing in this world while never losing sight of the next.
I created Hijri because I found myself drifting through the year, caught between the fireworks of a January resolution and the deep, unmistakable pull of Ramadan - and a little lost in all the months between. So many of the Hijri months carry their own sacred weight, yet in the long stretches between the landmarks, I kept finding myself searching. For meaning. For the bridges between one milestone and the next.
I wanted to share that feeling - not as an abstract idea, but as something you could hold in your hands, return to each month, and make your own.
What Is Hijri?
Hijri is where my two worlds meet. The spiritual heart of each volume is grounded in my years of classical study - the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the wisdom of the scholars who spent their lives mapping the human soul. The reflective, practical side - the journaling, the audits, the small daily practices - is drawn from my years of coaching women through real change. One half shapes the depth; the other other makes it actionable. Together, they became Hijri.
Hijri is a two-sided coin. On one side, it is a monthly periodical - a beautifully crafted publication that guides you through the twelve months of the Islamic lunar year. On the other, it is a reflective, thematic journal: a companion for the road, there to challenge you, to comfort you, and to draw you a little further along the path to Allah.
And Hijri is a journey - as its very name tells you. It is meant to travel with you, not sit on a shelf. That is why each edition is made to be carried: slipped into a bag, opened on a commute, returned to wherever the month happens to find you. Your companion for the year, wherever the year takes you.
Each edition is an invitation to slow down and reconnect - with your intentions, your community, your faith, and yourself. Rather than rushing from one Gregorian month to the next, marching to the rhythm of the sun, Hijri invites you to move with the moon: to let her cycles rise and wane alongside your own, so that you notice beginnings, mark milestones, and find meaning in the natural rhythm of the year.
Why the Lunar Year?
The Hijri calendar has guided Muslim communities for more than 1,400 years. Its months - from Muharram to Dhul Hijjah - are woven through with sacred significance, cultural memory, and spiritual opportunity. Yet for many of us in the modern world, the lunar year can feel distant, or half-forgotten.
There is a quiet kinship, too, between the moon and the women who follow her. She does not move in a straight line but in a cycle - waxing, full, waning, dark, and full again - and returns, faithfully, every time. A woman's life moves the same way: in seasons and rhythms, in months that fill and empty and fill again. Some nights you are luminous; some nights you are barely a sliver, resting in the dark before you return. The moon does not apologise for her waning, and neither should you. Both are part of the same faithful cycle - and both, without fail, come back to fullness.
Hijri exists to bridge that distance: to make the lunar year feel present and alive in your every day.
Midway Moments
No journey is walked in one breath. Midway through each month, readers receive a Midway Moment - a short video, exclusive to the Hijri community, to meet you in the middle of the road. A place to catch your breath after the first leg, renew the intentions you set at the start, and go deeper into the month's reflections before you carry on. A hand on your shoulder, halfway home.
For You
Whether you are deepening your faith, reconnecting with your heritage, or simply searching for a more intentional way to move through the year - Hijri is for you. Each edition meets you where you are - whether it’s on shift at work, at home, or lost and searching for a place to call yours - and draws you closer to what matters most.
Welcome to your lunar year. Let us begin.
How Hijri Is Made

Hijri is written and designed by Masuma Abdul-Muhit. Its reflections, its voice, and its spiritual direction are her own, drawn from a decade of classical Islamic Scholarship and her experience as a life coach.
We believe in being transparent about our process. AI tools play a supporting role in bringing each volume to you: AI is utilised to assist with editing and proofreading, and occasionally used to generate or edit imagery. Furthermore, a specially developed AI for the Islamic Sciences (Qaf) is used to help surface and cross-reference sources. to from the classical Islamic tradition. These tools help refine, illustrate, and verify the work - they never author it, and they are never the source of a ruling or reflection.
